Return to People Lists
About 950 men from Exeter died, between 1914 and as late as 1921, as a result of the Great War. There is no definitive list of the dead and at the moment I have collated about 600 names. Some details have been added to each man's listing if known - Name, Rank, Forename(s), Date Killed, Age, Street or Road, Unit. The street for each man is either that of his spouse, or if unmarried, his parents in the city.
Names for the list have been obtained from war memorials in the parish churches of Exeter, the Devon Records Office and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, where you can search to find the full record for any name. However, even the CWGC does not have a full list of names that can be attributed to Exeter, so the list is as complete as can be made from the above sources.
This page is a work in progress so that no man from Exeter is forgotten.
