BESLEY'S EXETER DIRECTORIES

Postby dick passmore » Sun Mar 16, 2008 12:03 pm

I am interested in buying any early copies of Besley's Directories of Exeter, mainly pre-1930. The 1930 years I am looking for are: 1938; 1936, 1933, and 1931. In addition, I am looking for virtually every year before 1930 (except 1927, 1923, 1907 and 1906). If you have ANY copy of Besley's Directory, but particularly early ones, I would be interested in buying. Please contact Dick Passmore through this Forum.

Hi Dick

I'm not sure if it will be of any interest to you, but I've just bought (from ebay) a street map of Exeter which came from an early Besley Directory. The title is 'Exeter in 1828'. Let me know if you would like a copy of it. There was no mention of the actual directory so I expect it was separated a long time ago.

If you had the directory as well it would be worth a lot of money! 1828 was the first year that T & H Besley produced their Exeter directories and it included the map of Exeter. I thought I had a copy of the 1828 map, but cannnot find it, so yes please would love to see a copy. email is dick.passmore@lspubs.plus.com
I would also be interested in the original if you want to make a profit!

I would be interested to see a copy of this street map if available, at adrianauster@btinternet.com. Many thanks.
